Daily Business

Hardware and software management is one of the main activities in the daily work of ICT specialists at BUCHI: end devices such as computers, printers, tablets and smartphones as well as operating systems have to be set up and configured according to the company's guidelines. Hardware has to be maintained or newly ordered, software and applications updated or installed, or the network modified. In addition, there is server management as well as working with the cloud: devices and peripherals (desktops, laptops, printers, etc.) must be connected to the network using network components (routers, wireless access points, etc.), malfunctions must be corrected, or problems must be forwarded to a specialist. Cyber security is a ubiquitous issue: the system and endpoints must be protected from threats (viruses, malware, etc.) using security tools.

International Support

As an export company with a large network of branches around the world, good international support is important for BUCHI to ensure smooth operations on a global scale. BUCHI employees work in different time zones and countries and therefore the internal IT helpdesk in Flawil is challenged accordingly. Direct first-level IT support is provided via ticket system or e-mail, directly by telephone or remotely. Accordingly, ICT apprentices must be able to communicate effectively in German and English in order to efficiently find solutions to technical problems.

Developing IT solutions

ICT apprentices participate in projects that affect the information and communications technology infrastructure in Switzerland and abroad, e.g., when a department is relocated within the company or when IT structure changes are made. This includes evaluating new solutions and technologies according to requirements and needs. During the implementation of IT solutions, the apprentice must be able to diagnose and troubleshoot technical problems and errors to ensure that everything is working effectively before it can subsequently be documented, rolled out and trained.
