Spray Drying of Riboflavin
Spray drying is a widely used technique for the preparation of dry powders from liquid suspensions, including riboflavin. Riboflavin is a water-soluble vitamin that plays a crucial role in many metabolic processes in the body, including the production of energy and the maintenance of healthy skin, hair, and nails.
The spray drying process involves preparing a riboflavin solution and then atomizing it into small droplets using a spray nozzle. The droplets are then passed through a drying chamber where they are exposed to a stream of hot air. As the droplets travel through the drying chamber, the liquid content evaporates, leaving behind the dry riboflavin particles.
The resulting powder is collected and characterized using various analytical techniques. Spray drying allows for the production of riboflavin powders with controlled particle size, shape, and other properties, ensuring optimal product functionality and stability.
Riboflavin is widely used in the food, beverage, and pharmaceutical industries as a dietary supplement, food colorant, and active ingredient in various products. Spray drying of riboflavin allows for the production of dry powders that are easy to handle, store, and incorporate into various formulations.
