Spray Drying of Styrol-Butadien

Application Note Mini Spray Dryer B-290 Stryrol-Butadien
Spray Drying of Styrol-Butadien

Spray drying is a commonly used method for drying polymeric materials, including styrol-butadiene copolymers (SBC). SBCs are widely used in the rubber and plastics industries due to their unique properties, such as excellent abrasion resistance, high elasticity, and good adhesion.

The spray drying process involves atomizing a solution of the SBC in a solvent into a fine mist, which is then dried in a stream of hot air. The resulting dry powder contains the SBC in a solid, free-flowing form, which is easier to handle and transport than the liquid form.

The properties of the SBC powders produced by spray drying can be controlled by adjusting the process parameters, such as the feed rate, drying temperature, and airflow rate. The use of different solvents or additives can also affect the properties of the final powder.

Overall, spray drying is an effective method for producing SBC powders with controlled properties, which can be used in a wide range of applications, including adhesives, sealants, and coatings. The process allows for the production of a large quantity of uniform particles with excellent flowability and dispersion properties.
