Spray Drying of Xylo-oligosaccharides

Application Note Mini Spray Dryer B-290 Xylo-oligosaccharides
Spray Drying of Xylo-oligosaccharides

Spray drying has been demonstrated as an effective technique for producing xylo-oligosaccharides (XOS) from xylose-rich lignocellulosic materials such as agricultural and forestry residues. XOS are short chains of xylose sugar molecules that have prebiotic properties and can stimulate the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.

The spray drying process involves atomizing a XOS solution into fine droplets and then drying them by hot air to form a dry powder. This technique has been shown to produce XOS with good solubility, stability, and prebiotic activity. The spray drying process can also be optimized to control the particle size and morphology of the resulting XOS powder, which can affect its functional properties.

Spray drying of XOS is a promising approach to convert low-value lignocellulosic biomass into high-value prebiotic products. The resulting XOS powder can be used as a dietary supplement, food additive, or functional ingredient in various applications.
